Course Objectives This course is based on an interdisciplinary study of the basic properties and theory of color, creating color relationships and harmonies, optical, psychological and spatial effects of color and different textures in interior design.
Learning Outcomes The students who succeeded in this course;
  • At the end of this course, students will be able to identify the basic color concepts.
  • At the end of this course, students will be able to explore color theory.
  • At the end of this course, students will be able to get acquainted with the color and its relationship to composition, through harmony and contrast.
  • At the end of this course, students will be able to recognize the relative aspects of color perception (e.g., psychological and cultural aspects and how the human eye perceives color) as they apply to solving design problems.
  • At the end of this course, students will be able to identify color choices and ways.
  • At the end of this course, students will apply texture choices in interiors according to their visual and psychological effects.
Course Description Introduces the use of color and texture in interior design. Emphasizes color theories, the psychology of colors and textures, and the application of colors and textures in designing interior environments.

Course Notes/Textbooks HOMEWORK 1: Create a color scheme that reflects your personality and write a descriptive text (half-page) about it. HOMEWORK 2: Choose an interior space with a special function in your close circle, analyze its color scheme, and discuss its psychological effect on you. HOMEWORK 3: Apply your selection of a color scheme in given interiors and write a descriptive text (half-page) including your reasons and motives. PRESENTATION: Prepare a presentation (.ppt) discussing texture choices, properties and psychological effects in your selection of 6 interiors with different functions (with groups of 2 or 3). *** PROJECT: Prepare “color and material documentation” with full color and texture properties of an interior space with given plan, section and elevation (with groups of 2 or 3) –The requirements will be announced later.
